Lufkin looks to finish district play undefeated

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Lufkin Panthers head into week ten boasting a record of eight wins and only one loss. The Panthers are actually a perfect through district 14-5A play with five wins and have guaranteed a district championship already. However, the Panthers say they remain focused on finishing the season strong.

"We are playing another option team and coach Carson does a great job at College Park so it will be another great test for our defense," said Coach Outlaw. " If we are going to go deep in the playoffs we have got to stop people's running game."

This week's challenge is against College Park and their offense is very similar to Lufkin's latest victim Kingwood. The Panthers managed to beat Kingwood while losing the time of possession category by almost a three to one ratio, and they say they are ready for another test.

"It's very frustrating, at first you are just worried about getting tired but you have to continue to fight through it," said defensive tackle Corey Clark. "Hopefully we can just stop them and have a lot of three and outs so we don't have to grind it out for so long."

Lufkin takes on the option offense of College Park this Friday at Wood Forest Bank stadium in the Woodlands. Kickoff for the final regular season game of the year is at 7:30 p.m.
