After a little rain last night, winds will pick up out of the north and temperatures will be significantly cooler today. This change in the weather comes courtesy of a cold front, which blew through the Pineywoods of Deep East Texas just after midnight.
In addition to the cooler weather today, the other big story will be the strong northerly winds. We could see wind speeds get up to 20 to 25 mph, with some gusts as high as 30 mph. Due to the strong winds, low humidity, and dry ground, a Red Flag Warning has been issued for Houston, Polk, and Trinity counties through the evening hours.
While today will be cool and windy, the big chill comes on Friday morning, when our temperatures will bottom out in the lower to middle 30's. It is quite possible that some of our colder than normal spots could see some patchy frost and experience their first freeze of the fall season. If we do drop to the freezing mark, it will be very brief and just last a short period of time.
