Mother Confesses to Killing Son & Burying Him

by Alex Carias

Police made a gruesome discovery in Polk County Friday morning. The body of a 4-year-old boy was found buried in the back yard of his home and police say the boy's mother has confessed to killing him. 26-year-old Tabitha Boone has been charged with capital murder in the death of her son.

It happened in the Ace community in Southern Polk County. The home is located in a very remote area, filled with thick woods and roads that are nearly impassable.

"We were led to about 4:00 this morning where a lady had buried her four-year-old son. We've been out here excavating the area and digging this morning, and we just found the body of the four year old child. We was told that the child was choked. We'll have to determine that through the autopsy," said Polk County Sheriff Billy Ray Nelson.

After six hours of searching, the body of 4-year-old Anthony Boone was discovered in a small grave, about one-and-a-half feet deep. The boy's body was in the fetal position, covered with a blanket. Investigators say the body was covered with lime, which may have been used to try and mask the odor of decomposition.

On Wednesday, Child Protective Services began to investigate reports that Anthony Boone was missing. Thursday afternoon, Polk County Sheriff's investigators began questioning the boy's mother, 25-year-old Tabitha Boone. After hours of interrogation, they say Boone confessed to killing her son and burying his body back in September.

"She pretty well was in denial when we first started questioning her. She gave us other locations were the child may be and we checked all those and then she opened up and confessed about it. There was some kind of family altercation with the child that the lady had with the child. As a result, the child was killed, then she buried the child," added Nelson.

Police say they are familiar with the Boone residence. Just last year the home was raided during a meth lab bust. And Sheriff Billy Ray Nelson says Child Protective Services have previously investigated the living conditions of Boone's children. Little Tony Boone was found about 50 yards behind his home. Investigators say had his mother not led them to his grave site, he probably would have never been found.

"It would have been hard to find. It would have been very difficult," said Nelson.

Tabitha Boone has been charged with capital murder. Her son's body has been sent to Beaumont for an autopsy.
