Cold Grips Northeast for What Could Become the Harshest January on Record

A 129-year-old weather record has been broken at Boston's Logan International Airport, the mercury dipped to two-below-zero this morning.

The National Weather Service says it hasn't been that cold on this date since 1875 when it was one-below.

The cold spell has sent temperatures well below freezing throughout the Northeast. In New England, readings should be hovering in the single digits all day. One person in Rhode Island says the temperature makes it feel like your ears are going to fall off.

Game-time temperature for tonight's NFL playoff game in Foxboro, Massachusetts, is expected to be around zero. As a result, fans of the New England Patriots and Tennessee Titans are being allowed to bring blankets and sleeping bags with them.
