LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Angelina County United Way set this year's target down from last year at $510,000, but they exceeded the goal by nearly $200,000.
The chair says they set the goal lower because they didn't want to put any unnecessary burden on the community.
"It's a testament to how giving Angelina County is every division met or came close to meeting their goal this year, so it means a lot that the county stepped up and helped us really blow the top off this goal," said James Flournoy, the campaign chair.
Lufkin Industries gave more than $300,000 to the campaign.
United Way helps fund more than 20 agencies in the county.
This year, the focus is bringing food, clothing and shelter to the county.
