LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin Police arrested a man Monday night after he allegedly drove drunk with a six-year-old passenger.
According to the report, an officer was standing in the parking lot in the 400 block of South Chestnut Street at 8:35 p.m. when he heard what sounded like a traffic accident southeast of where he was. The officer said he then saw a black vehicle turning into the parking lot of a bank next door and saw the driver, later identified as Cleve Shepherd, 64, of Lufkin, get a part of the vehicle out of the road.
As the officer approached the vehicle, Shepherd drove over a curb and into a grassy area, then backed up and turned onto Korengay Street, according to the report.
Another officer managed to stop Shepherd on the 300 block of South Chestnut Street and reported Shepherd had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, extremely slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and poor balance. He also failed roadside sobriety tests, according to the report.
Police arrested Shepherd on a charge of driving while intoxicated with a child passenger.
He was released Tuesday on a $3,500 bail bond.
