Nacogdoches honors veterans in annual downtown parade

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Nacogdoches hosted it's Annual Veterans Day Parade this morning, remembering the brave men and women who've served and are serving the country.

The parade kicked off at T.J.R. Elementary school at 11 a.m. Saturday morning, with a balloon release, and then made it's way through the historic streets of downtown Nacogdoches. Hundreds of veterans and families lined the streets, waving their flags.

"I'm a veteran myself, and I certainly am honored and pleased to be a part of this celebration because there's certainly many other than I that have served the country," said Nacogdoches Veteran, Carl Pfaffenberg. "So, it's a real exciting moment for me to see all this wonderful stuff, the parade, all the wonderful events scheduled."

Local fire departments, law enforcement, Girl Scouts, bands, and more march through the street, showing their support for the troops. Many look forward to the troops returning home by year's end.
