LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A man convicted in 1988 of stabbing another man to death is back in jail and accused of raping a woman on a Lufkin road in October.

Rickie Elwood Griffin, 42, of Nacogdoches, is charged with sexual assault, a second-degree felony, and is also in jail on a parole warrant for the murder conviction.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, a woman came to the Lufkin Police Department on November 3 and reported she was sexually assaulted on October 30. The woman said she was visiting a friend in Lufkin when Griffin stopped by the residence and started visiting with them.

About 15 minutes later, the woman and Griffin left the residence in Griffin's vehicle with the woman's understanding they would be going to the store. While in the car, the woman said Griffin said, "I'm going to get some of that."

Griffin drove down Sayers Street and pulled into a driveway in the 1900 block and started hitting the woman in the face, causing multiple injuries, the woman said. She said she tried to get out of the car, but Griffin was able to cut her off.

He then forced her into the passenger side and raped her in the car, according to the report.

The woman said Griffin then drove her back to the residence, where the woman's friend saw her injuries and that she was upset.

Police obtained a warrant for Griffin's arrest on November 9. He turned himself in on the warrant on Monday at the Nacogdoches County Jail and Lufkin Police took him to the Angelina County Jail on the same day.

Griffin was found guilty in a jury trial of murdering Carlton Fears in 1988, in Nacogdoches County, according to court records. The jury sentenced him to 30 years, but he was released on probation in 1992. He was brought back to prison in July 1996, but paroled out in October of 2002. He was then sent to an intermediate sanction facility in November 2006 and released in 2007.

Griffin has convictions of theft, criminal mischief and assault during that time.

According to court records, Griffin killed Fears by stabbing him with a knife. The parole warrant was issued on November 10 because of the sexual assault charge.
