Giffords speaks to southern AZ constituents

U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords is speaking to her southern Arizona constituents, telling them in a recorded message that she's anxious to get back to work and she misses her home.

Giffords' office says the minute long message was recorded last week in Houston where the three-term congresswoman has been undergoing rigorous rehabilitation therapy for 10 months.

The message was released Tuesday on Giffords' Facebook page. She says in the message that she's getting stronger and better.

Speaking in a clear but stilted voice, she adds that representing Arizona is an honor.

Giffords was shot in the head on Jan. 8 while meeting with constituents at a shopping center in Tucson. Six people were killed in the shooting and 13 others, including Giffords, were wounded.

Giffords, 41, appeared Monday on ABC in her first public interview since being shot on Jan. 8 while meeting with constituents. The interview showed a woman who appeared confident and determined, but still far from able to carry on a detailed conversation.

She spoke in a clear voice, but in halting phrases: "Pretty good ... Difficult ... Strong, strong, strong," she replied to questions about how she was feeling and how she'd fared over the 10 months since the shooting.

She described her emotions as she learned that six people died in the shootings and that 12 others were wounded.

"I cried," she said. "... A lot of people died."

The Giffords interview was accompanied by video her husband, former astronaut Mark Kelly, shot documenting Giffords' recovery.

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
