ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - The Angelina County Sheriff's Office is investigating criminal charges against a man who apparently was driving at high speeds on U.S. 59 with his wife on top of his vehicle. The woman was taken by helicopter to an out-of-town hospital, where she is being treated for serious injuries after she fell off the vehicle.
Sheriff Kent Henson said a man went to his estranged wife's house and at some point, their child ended up in the man's vehicle.
Henson said the man called 911 and mentioned something about a disturbance with his wife. The dispatcher asked him if she was in the car with him and he told her, "No, my wife's on the car."
Henson said it was about that time the woman fell off the vehicle, near the intersection of Airport Road.
The man kept driving and was eventually stopped by Lufkin Police on Feagin Drive, Henson said.
He is being detained for questioning and not yet charged, Henson said.
Around the same time, Henson said emergency personnel were called out to a private property on Lone Star Road, where a man was seriously injured after a four-wheeler accident.
Henson said the man had fixed up his four-wheeler and was testing it out when he flipped it on top of himself.
Henson said he was taken to a Lufkin hospital with serious injuries.
