NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) – Some East Texans got a running start to Thanksgiving Thursday morning. They ran in the annual Turkey Trot 5-K Run in Nacogdoches.
The idea is to run off those extra calories before the big meal. We do not know how successful that idea was for the runners but we do know some of the innovative runners were successful with their Turkey Trot costumes. "We're Texas Turkeys in tutus. And we're going to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving on the back," said Mary Olle and Kim Payne, Turkey Trotters.
"We're pillow case Indians and I have on my war arrow because I'm going to beat my mom today." "And she can be looking back seeing me in a battle," said Ginny and LeAnn Love, Turkey Trotters.
The Turkey Trot tradition includes generations of participants who celebrate the holiday with grandparents, relatives, and friends. The age of the participants covers both ends of the spectrum and all in between.
Nacogdoches United Way Director Gary Ashcraft was strutting his stuff. He is thankful the run benefits his agency. You can catch the next Healthy Nacogdoches 5-K on December 3rd at the Jingle Bell Run.
