TRINITY COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - The Trinity County Sheriff's Office is investigating an incident last Wednesday in which a witness said a man killed his wife by striking her with his vehicle.
According to a press release from Sheriff Ralph Montemayor, deputies were called to 152 Dogwood Street at 11:39 p.m. after a witness reported Charles Aaron Rightmire, 34, of Trinity, struck and killed his wife, Shayla Nicole Rightmire, 30, of Trinity, with his pickup truck before he drove away from the residence.
Deputies arrived at the residence and found the woman dead in a vacant lot next to the home, near tire impressions believed to be from her husband's truck.
Montemayor stated Charles Rightmire immediately contacted law enforcement and agreed to cooperate with the investigation.
Officials with the Texas Rangers and the Trinity County District Attorney's Office also arrived on scene to assist in the investigation.
Montemayor stated that District Attorney Joe Ned Dean will likely take the case to a grand jury in January to consider criminal charges.
Deputies with the Precinct One Constable's Office arrested Shayla Rightmire earlier this month following an undercover meth investigation.
Charles Rightmire has two felony convictions from the late 1990s.
