Nacogdoches Shooting

A shooting in Nacogdoches County has left one man fighting for his life tonight. The man accused of shooting him is behind bars. Investigators with the Nacogodoches County Sheriff's Department are still looking into the cause of that shooting, but they think it may have started after a dispute involving a woman.

It happened around 3:30 this afternoon on Marion Ferry Road, that's in the Kingtown area about 15 miles southeast of Nacogdoches. Sheriff Thomas Kerss says 62-year-old David Redden of Nacogdoches shot 52-year-old Paul Wheeles twice in the head with a .22-caliber rifle. Wheeles is from Houston. Police say he was visiting a woman who lives next door to Redden. The two men apparently got into an argument, which then led to the shooting.

Paul Wheeles was taken by ambulance to Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition. David Redden is in the Nacogdoches County Jail, charged with attempted murder. He could face a murder charge if the victim dies.
