Lufkin man arrested after hitting and knocking down a utility pole

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

A Lufkin man was arrested after striking down a utility pole and driving off from the scene of the accident.

According to Lufkin Police Department, a call came in at 4 p.m. about a red Freightliner log truck involved in an accident. The witness reported the truck struck and knocked down the utility pole at the intersection of Bynum and W. Frank Street, causing the intersection to lose power. The witness saw the truck leaving the scene and followed the truck until it was stopped by officers on Atkinson Drive at Herty, several miles from the scene.

Authorities identified the driver as Jerry Marshall, 51, of Lufkin. He was arrested for leaving the scene of the accident, as well as ticketed for an expired driver's license, expired registration, and expired commercial vehicle inspection.

He was booked into the Angelina County Jail.
