Lufkin man arrested for stealing tires and rims

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

A Lufkin man was arrested overnight Saturday for stealing tires and rims off of cars parked in a local dealership.

According to the report, an officer noticed a pickup turn into the south parking lot of Mercer Nissan Mazda dealership in the 200 block of North Timberland at 12:30 a.m., while patrolling on Timberland Drive.

The officer continued to observe, as the pickup drove to the back of the building and turned off it's lights. When the officer turned into the parking lot, he noticed Javier Sarmiento, 19, of Lufkin, walking toward a vehicle for sale on the lot, while carrying a heavy duty floor jack.

Sarmiento was arrested, and further investigation revealed he was stealing rims and tires off of a truck. Sarmiento was booked into the Angelina County Jail on a theft charge.
