NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - A Nacogdoches woman died Monday morning, while in custody of the Nacogdoches County Jail, at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital.
Edwinta Ruth Deckard was 53.
According to Sheriff Thomas Kerss, she was booked into the jail on Friday on misdemeanor theft charges. She became ill Sunday afternoon and was taken to the hospital after 6 a.m. Monday, where she died.
Kerss said Deckard died of natural causes and had a lengthy history of health problems, though a full investigation into the death will be conducted.
