Garrison and Tenaha keep state title hopes alive

EAST TEXAS (KTRE) – There are two area East Texas teams left on the road to a state championship berth.

The Tenaha Tigers, coming off a 55-6 romp over Mt. Enterprise last week, this week is on the road to play Burton in the state semi-finals.  The two teams will meet Friday night at A&M Consolidated in College Station, kick-off is 7:30.

Rain, sleet or shine, the Tigers are working hard this week to get ready for Round 5 of the playoffs.

"This is what you dream of.  It's cold and not nice outside, but this is why you play.  This is what you try to do.  We are having fun trying to get the kids going a little bit in the weather.  This doesn't happen very often," said an excited Terry Ward, Tenaha Head Coach.

"It feels pretty good, but it's a lot of pressure.  They are telling us that's all they want.  In pre-K they said all they want for Christmas is a state championship," said Octavius Griffith, Tenaha wide receiver.

Tenaha will have to get past the Burton Panthers in order to get to the championship round.

The Garrison Bulldogs are also still in the hunt for a state title.  They face the Mason Comets Friday night at Floyd Casey Stadium in Waco.  Garrison advanced on a 31-0 win against Lovelady in a 1-A showdown last week.
