LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The City of Lufkin has allowed a burn ban to expire, meaning it is legal for residents to burn within the city limits.
Fire Marshal Steve McCool said the ban expired on Tuesday.
McCool said the burning ordinance is very different from what is allowed in the county. Residents cannot burn plastic, paper, tires or any other kind of household items. Only natural products, like grass, leaves or brush can be burned.
McCool said it is also illegal to use any kind of liquid fuel to accelerate the burning. Fires can only be started with matches or lighters.
