NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - For six years, Love in the Name of Christ has helped their clients each Christmas through 'Shared Blessings'.
Clients are allowed to shop from hundreds of donations and new items so presents will be under the tree for their children.
For the first time, the agency has help from another generous organization.
Collecting hundreds of gift items for over 150 families and over 300 children is a tremendous commitment for love in the name of Christ
This year they have some much needed help.
Love, Inc. is a member of the Pineywoods Apartment Association.
It's a perfect holiday match.
"I work for the emergency shelter grant where I helped families who are facing eviction or are currently homeless. It's just a great networking position where we are able to work together to help family's homes," said Vanesha Lewis, Love,Inc. Case Manager.
The Apartment Association no longer has a Christmas party for members.
Instead, they encourage the service work.
Just a nice thing to do at Christmas time.
"Volunteering is one of the things we like to do or as an association to give back. Not just show support, but to show that we are really about being a community," said Jessica Tinker, a member of the association.
The goal is to help those who are willing to help themselves.
Veronica Jernigan, also called 'Pooh', graduated from the Christian Women's Job Corp.
"I'm a single mother of three and it helps out a lot. Even though I have a job, sometimes, you know, it's just hard to make ends meet and this program really helps out a lot," Jernigan said.
Shared Blessings benefits not only the shoppers.
10-year-old Krysten Tinker is learning it is better to give than to receive.
"So it's good to do charity and give people a healthy meal and nice presents," Tinker said.
