Lufkin woman critically injured after hitting fence on Hwy 59

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

One woman is critically injured after she drove into power pole and fence Monday afternoon.

Trooper Phillip Richard said Maria Cordero, 43, of Lufkin, was driving northbound along Highway 59 in Angelina County when she overcorrected and left the road near FM 843.

Around 4:30 p.m., she struck a power pole, leaving her 2004 Ford Mustang on its side against a chain-link fence.

A medical helicopter blocked traffic during the evening rush hour on Highway 59. The driver was transported from the scene in critical condition shortly after 5 o'clock. Richard said the woman is being airlifted to ETMC in Tyler.

As of Tuesday morning, Cordero was in extremely critical condition.
