ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A tip called in to the Angelina County Sheriff's Office after a story aired on KTRE led investigators to arrest a Lufkin man accused of trying to rob a convenience store.
Lt. Pete Cooper said deputies arrested Semion Demontrord Williams, 33, Tuesday night, after someone called in that recognized the pickup in the video.
The video shows a suspect drive to the Polk's Pick-It-Up on the 3600 block of Highway 69 North in Lufkin on December 9. He then came back and handed the store clerk a dollar bill, then pulled out a gun and demanded money from the register. Instead of giving the suspect the money, the clerk closed the register drawer. The suspect then left the store and drove away.
Cooper said someone called the office after the story aired on KTRE.
"That's how we were able to make this case," Cooper said. "Someone recognized his truck. He said, 'that's my truck,' and said he had let this guy borrow it."
Williams is being held on a $200,000 bail bond on a charge of aggravated robbery.
