CHIRENO, TX (KTRE) – It is one of the busiest shopping days of the year in Chireno. It is their own Black Wednesday, if you will, the time of year when elementary students get to shop at their school's Santa's Workshop.
Members of the Parent, Teacher, Student Organization purchase gifts from local merchants to stock the school's store. Then volunteer parents and grandparents help the students shop and wrap their gifts. They say it is not about making a profit. "We want our kids here at Chireno to learn the importance of giving. It's such a great thing to be able to give back to people you love," said Amy Rushing.
Rushing says the great thing about the kids shopping at Santa's Workshop is you never know what they will end up buying. Fire years and still going strong, the PTSO is already making plans for next year.
