Lufkin woman dies following an accident on Monday

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A Lufkin woman has died following a car accident, where she drove into a power pole and fence, Monday afternoon.

According to DPS, the woman was pronounced dead at 5:15 p.m. at ETMC in Tyler Friday afternoon.

Trooper Phillip Richard said Maria Cordero, 43, of Lufkin, was driving northbound along Highway 59 in Angelina County when she overcorrected and left the road near FM 843.

Around 4:30 p.m., she struck a power pole, leaving her 2004 Ford Mustang on its side against a chain-link fence.

A medical helicopter blocked traffic during the evening rush hour on Highway 59. The driver was transported from the scene in critical condition shortly after 5 o'clock. Cordero was airlifted to ETMC in Tyler.
