BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) -

The Bossier City Council has unanimously adopted an ordinance authorizing a lease agreement that will allow the Margaritaville project to move forward on property north of Bass Pro Shops and the Louisiana Boardwalk.

"It's the lease/purchase option that initiates the contract so they can use the land to build the casino and then giving us an option to purchase that in the future," said David Montgomery, Jr., president of the Bossier City Council.

The council also adopted an ordinance to use $307,000 of the city's 2007 Transportation Improvement Bond Issue to go towards the casino development.

Groundbreaking on the $195 million dollar project is expected in late January with construction starting on the first of February. That is one month later than developer initially expected but it is not supposed to delay the project in any way. Developers expect the resort hotel and casino to open in May 2013.

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
