LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – Lufkin police have been busy investigating numerous thefts reported overnight and the robbery of a Lufkin Industries employee.
According to a police report, officers were dispatched shortly before 10PM Wednesday night to the Lufkin Industries guard house and were told a robbery had just occurred down the street at 708 Southwood Drive. A Lufkin Industries worker told police that he had gone to the Super S Grocery and when he left the store to return to his truck he was approached by 2 men, one of them asked for directions to the hospital.
He began giving directions when the suspect pulled a gun on him that looked like a gray colored revolver and held it to the victim's stomach. The two bandits escaped with the worker's cell phone, cash and his wallet. The victim said before the suspects fled they told him to get into his vehicle and drive away. He did. The suspects were last seen walking southbound on Southwood. Officers checked the area but did not find anyone fitting the descriptions.
The victim describes the two robbers as black males, one short and stocky, about 5'6" tall, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, and a second skinny, about 6' tall, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt. Police are investigating the incident as an aggravated robbery.
Officers are also investigating several theft cases, including a complaint that thieves stole a pair of Nike Kobe Bryant athletic shoes from a house in the 800 block of Groesbeck Ave. The package had just been delivered by UPS and was reported stolen off a porch. A shopper at J.C Penney's said someone stole her necklace, worth $700, while she was trying on another one.
A wallet was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 800 block of N. Timberland.
And, in another report, someone broke into an apartment in the 3500 block of N. John Redditt Drive and stole several items, including 2 big screen TV's, a DVD player and a Desktop.
