JASPER COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A Magnolia Springs man died Tuesday night following a two-vehicle wreck which involved a donkey that escaped from a nearby pasture.
A doctor pronounced Preston Booker, 97, dead at 8:29 p.m. at a Beaumont hospital.
According to the DPS report, Tammy Jenkins, of Silsbee, was driving a 2006 Mack truck southbound on FM 1005 at 4:40 p.m. when she hit the brakes to avoid hitting a donkey which had escaped from a nearby pasture. Jenkins locked up her brakes and slid into the northbound lane and stopped. Booker, who was driving a 1989 Dodge pickup, was driving in the northbound lane and struck the donkey, then Jenkins truck.
Jenkins was not injured. Booker was wearing a seatbelt.
