Nacogdoches baseball coach Nicky Wiggins resigns

NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Almost one month ago at the December 15th Nacogdoches school board meeting a decision about baseball coach Nicky Wiggins was supposed to be made but no public decision was made at that time. Wiggins has been under investigation since November over allegedly sending inappropriate text messages to NHS students and also providing alcohol to minors.

Wiggins was told of the investigation in November and on December 2nd was placed on administrative leave. Since then his future with the Dragons has been up for debate, but that is over now. Wiggins will resign as of January 16th according the superintendent Fred Hayes.

The NISD administration's investigation found sufficient evidence to warrant a recommendation of termination, but the NISD police investigation is still ongoing.

No NISD official was available to comment on who will replace Wiggins as head coach.
