VAN ZANDT COUNTY, TX (KLTV/KTRE) -

A truck driver involved in an accident Friday afternoon that killed a 16 year Wills Point youth has contacted authorities.  Ruben Lann, 67, of Willis Point said he was traveling south on FM 47 when he hit what he thought were two trash bags or dead hogs in the road, according to DPS trooper Brady Lunceford.

Trooper Lunceford said Lann, who works for Tawakoni Plant Farm, continued on his route and carried a load to Oklahoma and did not hear of the teen's death until he returned.  Lunceford said Lann immediately contacted authorities who examined his truck.

The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. Friday on Farm-to-Market Road 47, 8 miles north of Wills Point.  Originally, it was believed that Casey Eggeling, 16, of Wills Point, was walking southbound on FM 47 when he was hit by an unknown vehicle.  Lunceford says it now appears that Eggeling and another 16 year old were sleeping in the road when the accident occurred.  The other teenager was not injured.

Eggeling died on the scene.  Investigators say Lann will not be charged in the accident.  Funeral services for Eggeling are scheduled for 11:00 AM, Monday, January 9, 2012, at Calvary Baptist Church in Wills Point.

Burial will follow at Kemp Cemetery in Kemp, TX. Services are under direction of Hiett's LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point.

Family visitation will be held from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Sunday evening.
