GROVETON, TX (KTRE) - A Groveton man is in stable condition after being stabbed in the heart on Saturday.
According to Groveton Police Chief, John Raiford, the police department received a call of a stabbing around 6 p.m. Sunday evening. When they arrived on the scene, officers found Felix Benavides, 21, of Groveton, with a stab wound to the chest. Initial investigation revealed Benavides was having a barbeque with some acquaintances when an altercation broke out. One of the men then stabbed Benavides in the chest. He suffered a 2 centimeter wound.
Hilario Casas-Vasquez was arrested for stabbing Benavides with a pocket knife. Benavides was transported to Memorial Hospital in Lufkin by Groveton EMS.
Raiford reports Benavides is now in stable condition, and he is walking and visiting with family members.
The incident is still under investigation by the Groveton Police Department. No more details are available at this time.
