LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A Trinity man began a one-year sentence in relation to copper theft at the Lufkin Abitibi plant.
Gary Luther Spradlin, 39, accepted a 12-month state-jail sentence in November, but came to court Tuesday to officially begin the sentence.
Deputies with the Angelina County Sheriff's Office arrested Spradlin in June 2010 after they connected him to stealing thousands of dollars in wire at the plant. Deputies confiscated his pickup truck at the scene and reviewed surveillance photos to confirm Spradlin as a suspect.
Deputies later arrested James Calvin Roy, 45, of Lufkin, in the same case.
Spradlin is now in custody of Angelina County Sheriff's Office and will be transported to the state jail today.
