Theft investigation leads to big meth bust in Shelby Co.

SHELBY COUNTY, TX (News Release) -

The Nacogdoches County Constable Office precinct 4 , along with the Shelby County Sheriff office has seized 55 grams of methamphetamine after a search of a residence in Shelby County. Constable Bridges stated that his office is currently working a criminal investigation where two four wheelers have been stolen in the  Martinsville area. Bridges stated that while following up on leads in the case, that a name of interest in Shelby county arose.

Constable Bridges stated that his office was joined on scene by the Shelby County Sheriff Office on Cr. 1180.  Constable Bridges received consent to search a metal building near the residence to search for stolen property. During the search Constable Bridges found a large amount of methamphetamine contained inside the building. Deputy Marble with the Constable Office also found another large amount of methamphetamine hidden inside the building in two different places. Bridges stated that a search was then conducted of the residence where more methamphetamine, plastic baggies, scales and other drug paraphernalia were found.

A total of 55 grams of methamphetamine were found and recovered at the residence. Bridges stated that Billy Scates 30 years of age and  Michael Scates 27 years of age were both arrested for Felony possession of a controlled substance and transported to the Shelby County Jail.

Constable Bridges stated that this was a significant amount of drugs taken off the street that has an estimated street value of $5,500.00 dollars. Bridges stated that the constable office had an ongoing investigation on drug activity that was coming from this area into Nacogdoches County for sometime. This large seizure of methamphetamine should help reduce the flow of methamphetamine in both counties.

The Constable office is still conducting an ongoing investigation into two four wheelers thefts that occurred Saturday night in Martinsville, Texas. Both four wheelers are red in color, made by Honda. Anyone with information is asked to contact the constable office at 936-715-0317 or crime stoppers.
