Workers moving Goodman Bridge on Monday

NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (News Release) -

On Monday, January 23, 2012, Nacogdoches County in coordination with TxDOT, Easley Crane & Rigging and Jed Henson of Henson House Moving will be relocating the historic Goodman Bridge to the Nacogdoches County Exposition Center.  This will be the first stop for Goodman Bridge before settling in Pecan Acres Park later this year.

Goodman Bridge was built by Austin Bridge Company out of Dallas, Texas as a conduit between Nacogdoches County and Cherokee County in 1929 and is one of the few warren truss bridges left in the State of Texas.  Nacogdoches County and the City of Nacogdoches are partnering to preserve this historic bridge.

In order to make this successful transfer, County Road 789 will be closed from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Monday January 23, 2012.  Traffic studies have shown that 250 people travel this county road daily.  The County is asking that the public use alternative routes for this long awaited, one day event.
