Angelina College's Roadrunner basketball team came as close as possible to its first conference win of the season, losing on a buzzer beater to the Paris Dragons.
AC's LaDerrien Jackson hit a jumper with 11 seconds to play to give the Roadrunners a one-point lead, but Paris' T.J. Taylor – who earlier this season signed with Marquette University – hit a 14-footer the final buzzer beater to lift the Dragons to a 64-63 win in Paris.
Victor Mbachu led the Roadrunners (9-11, 0-9) with 17 points. Jaylen Daniel added 16 and Jackson 15 in the loss.
Taylor finished with 22 points to lead the Dragons.
"To play like this in Paris, which is probably the hardest place to play in our conference, shows the heart and determination of our team," AC head coach Todd Neighbors said. "The guys played their hearts out. I told them now they know what it takes to give themselves a chance to win. I was proud of their effort, pride, passion and teamwork.
"I really believe this team is ready to explode."
Earlier in the day, the Lady Roadrunners dropped a 62-50 decision to Paris' Lady Dragons to drop to 9-12, 5-5 on the season.
Both AC basketball teams are on the road in Carthage Wednesday night to take on Panola. Game time for the women is 5:30 p.m., with the men following at 7:30 p.m.
