Zumbathon raises money to help cancer patients in East Texas

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) – Hats off to the 70 dancers who participated in the 2 Annual Zumbathon, benefiting the Arthur Temple Sr Regional Cancer Center in Lufkin.

Men and women danced for three hours Saturday to raise $1,500.  That is double the enrollment from last year and provides much needed help for area cancer patients. "And these patients who need money to get to the Arthur Temple Regional Cancer Center for radiation therapy, they may need money to buy their prescription medications, or even just gas to get to the center or overnight lodging at the Joe W Elliott House," said Yana Ogletree, Dir. of Marketing, Memorial Hospital.

The event was held at LiveWell Athletic Center The Zumba Marathon, featured numerous local certified Zumba instructors, Sharon Miller, Cindy Mitchell and Yana Ogletree from Livewell Athletic Club; Yanneth Castro, Eddie Matts, Jessica Gomez from Studio Fuego; Amanda Caulk from Get Fit, and Rudy Flores from Lufkin's First United Methodist Church.

This year's event was sponsored by Memorial, KTRE-TV, First Bank & Trust, Zimmerman Communications, Studio Fuego, and Livewell Athletic Club.
