NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested a woman early Tuesday after she allegedly left her baby behind during a chase. A man who was with her is still at-large.
According to Sheriff Thomas Kerss, deputies stopped a vehicle driven by Andre Ladon Poteet, 19, of Nacogdoches, after a traffic accident, at 3:30 a.m. on the Nacogdoches loop. Kerss said Poteet at first gave a false name, but deputies eventually learned his real identity and learned he was wanted on a grand jury indictment for family violence charges.
Kerss said Poteet sped away from the scene and deputies chased him around the loop. He stopped on the southeast loop and ran away from the scene. In the vehicle was his passenger, Jamie Leanne Molsbee, 18, and an eight-month-old child.
A deputy told Molsbee to stay in the vehicle while he chased after Poteet, Kerss said. But Molsbee jumped out, leaving the baby behind.
A deputy managed to talk Molsbee back into custody, but Poteet is still at-large.
Molsbee is charged with abandoning a child, resisting arrest and failure to identify.
Poteet is wanted on the outstanding charge, in addition to failure to identify and evading arrest.
