Lufkin Police: Woman taken to cleaners after taking money to cleaners

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin Police are investigating a case in which a woman said she took $15,000 in cash to get it cleaned only to never get it back at all.

According to the report, a woman said she heard an advertisement on a Spanish-speaking radio station which offered to take money to have it "spiritually cleansed."

The woman took the $15,000 in cash to a residence on the 200 block of Fred Street to have it cleaned. But the woman said the suspects moved out of the residence without returning her money and will not respond to her phone calls. A neighbor at the residence said that numerous potential customers had come to the residence since they moved away.

"Everyone should be vigilant and suspicious when making financial transactions," said police spokesman Det. J.B. Smith. "The old adage 'if it sounds too good to be true, it is,' still rings true today."
