NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A Nacogdoches County deputy constable arrested a Tennessee man Friday after he reportedly found marijuana hidden in a checkers game set and two boxes of detergent.
According to Constable Jason Bridges, a deputy constable stopped a vehicle on a traffic violation. When the officer was standing at the door of the vehicle and speaking with those in the vehicle, he reported smelling marijuana, Bridges stated.
Bridges said the officer used probable cause to search the vehicle and found five pounds of marijuana hidden in a checkers game set and two boxes of detergent. The officer explained that the boxes had been opened and all of the detergent had been poured out. then the marijuana was put in the boxes and the detergent was added back to the box and the lids were resealed with glue.
A passenger in the car, Marty Montell Jones, 39, of Memphis, Tenn., said the marijuana was his and the driver said they had no knowledge of it being in the vehicle, Bridges stated.
Jones was arrested on a charge of possession of marijuana, a state-jail felony.
Bridges estimates the street value of the drug to be $10,000.
