SAN AUGUSTINE, TX (KTRE) -

San Augustine Police arrested a Fort Worth man Friday after he allegedly tried to deal drugs near the middle school campus.

Police Chief Jessee Fountain said an officer suspected that James Andrew Polk Jr., 34, was involved in a drug deal near the middle school at 9:25 p.m. The officer tried to approach Polk but Fountain said he ran away to a nearby apartment. The officer caught up to him at the apartment and said he caught him with a small package of marijuana and several different packages of cocaine. The officer arrested him at the scene.

Because Polk was within 1,000 feet of a drug-free zone, his charge is enhanced to a first-degree felony offense of delivery of a controlled substance.
