LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

A Huntington man is dead after his vehicle collided with a train on Southwood Drive early Wednesday.

According to Lufkin Police spokesman J.B. Smith, the train hit the Pontiac Grand Am on the 3400 block of Southwood Drive and pushed it down the tracks about two-tenths of a mile before coming to a stop.

Justice of the Peace Billy Ball said he pronounced Kaleb Drew Rye, 27, dead at the scene Wednesday morning.

Smith said the preliminary report indicates Rye disregarded the railroad crossing arms and signals at the crossing and the train's horn.

At 8:45 a.m., investigators were still on the scene and had the 3000 to 4000 blocks of Southwood Drive closed for another hour while a crane moved the vehicle from the train tracks.

Once the vehicle was removed from the tracks, investigators were able to identify the man who died.
