Angelina College's Lady Roadrunner
softball team had to wait long enough to start the season, with the past
weekend getting washed out completely.
Once they finally hit the field for
real, they were more than ready.
The Lady ‘Runners swept Trinity
Valley in Athens, winning the opener 10-2 in five innings and taking the
nightcap by a 7-5 score.
Freshman Laura Martinez collected
three singles in four at-bats, driving in a run and scoring two more while
adding a stolen base to her credit. Jordan Garza, another freshman, finished
with a single, a double and four runs driven in. Starting pitcher Taylor
Thompson went the full five innings, allowing two earned runs while striking
out two and walking four batters.
In the nightcap, sophomore Taylor
Brookshire went 2-for-2 with a single and a double; she also scored twice and
drove in a run. Molly Mackey added two singles and a double in four trips to
the plate, scoring one run and driving in another. Shelby Phillips earned the
win on the mound.
AC (2-0) will host Texarkana in a Friday
