Watches and Warnings

The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma has responsibility for issuing severe thunderstorm and tornado watches across the nation. A watch indicates atmospheric conditions are favorable for severe weather development.

During a watch you should:

  1. Remain alert to weather changes...severe weather often develops rapidly.
  2. Stay tuned to KTRE,, and NOAA Weather Radio for the latest information.
  3. Plan ahead. Know what protective action you will take if severe weather develops or moves into your area. It would be beneficial to have a map handy with counties outlined because warnings are issued for counties. Be sure you know your location on the map.

If severe weather does develop or moves into your area...the National Weather Service office responsible for your area will issue either a severe thunderstorm or tornado warning. Warnings indicate imminent danger to life and property to those in the path of the storm.

2. Stay tuned to KTRE,, and NOAA Weather Radio for further information and note details such as what is happening, where the severe weather is now, if it is moving toward you, and how long will it continue.
