Coyotes blamed for Phoenix cop's motorcycle crash

PEORIA, AZ (CBS5) -

A Phoenix Police officer has been released from the hospital after crashing while riding his motorcycle in the far West Valley.

Jay Davies with the Peoria Police Department said the officer was on his way to work when swerved to avoid hitting a pack of coyotes. Davies said the motorcycle struck a curb and went into an embankment.

The officer was flown to John C. Lincoln Hospital with hip and shoulder injuries, none of which were life-threatening, Davies said.

A Peoria Fire Department spokesman said the crash happened in the area of 107th Avenue and Beardsley Road around 6 a.m. Friday.

Phoenix Police spokesman Officer James Holmes said Friday afternoon that the officer is "resting comfortably at home."
