Nacogdoches man in jail on child endangerment charge

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

A Nacogdoches man accused of leaving a baby behind during a chase with law enforcement officer in late January is now in custody at the Nacogdoches County Jail.

Andre Ladon Poteet, 19, allegedly fled deputies with the Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office following a traffic accident on Jan. 31. Poteet sped away from the accident scene after deputies learned he had a warrant out for his arrest, according to a previous report. In the car with him were Jamie Leanne Molsbee, 18, and an 18-month-old child.

Poteet eventually stopped on the southeast loop in Nacogdoches and ran away from the scene, according to the report. Deputies were never able to find him.

Sheriff Thomas Kerss said he was not sure how Poteet was brought into custody on Monday, but records showed San Jacinto County had a custody hold on him.

Poteet is charged with abandoning a child, evading arrest and failure to identify.
