CENTER, TX (KTRE) - Calling it a sign of the times, Shelby County officials are escalating security at the courthouse.
The courthouse now has a metal detector and two guards at its entrance.
About two weeks ago, visitors started emptying their pockets and turning over their purses before walking through the detector.
The decision came following a November incident, when Phillip Cooper tried coming in the courthouse with a rifle and shotgun after a heated CPS hearing.
Cooper was arrested on a charge of terroristic threat.
