LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - One East Texas couple was able to celebrate leap day with the exciting birth of their new baby girl.
Sofia Louise Massey was born around 5:00 p.m. Wednesday evening to Dustin and Taylor Massey. She was the first baby born in Lufkin on leap day.
Sofia weighed 7 pounds and 7 ounces and was 19 inches long. She was born at Lufkin Memorial Hospital.
At first, Taylor wondered if Sofia would wait until Thursday, March 1st before making her grand arrival.
"I actually was due March 6th and we opted to go ahead and have her today instead of waiting. We were scheduled for the 5th and he said he could do it and I said I'm ready so we went ahead," said Taylor Massey.
Even more unique than being a leap day baby, mom and daughter have the same birth weight and length. The only difference was Taylor was born 22 minutes later in the day.
Sofia won't celebrate her next birthday until 2016.
