Junior League of Lufkin discontinues Charity Ball

LUFKIN, TX (News Release/KTRE) - After 36 years and much consideration, The Junior League of Lufkin has decided to discontinue their annual Charity Ball event.

"The end to this tradition is bittersweet.  The League is sad to say goodbye, but excited to focus our efforts and resources on ways to better serve our community," said Jennifer Webster, League president.

According to a news release, the group will be focusing on its annual Helping Hands campaign that was developed several years ago.  Webster says supporters have responded positively and generously contributed to the program.

The League also planning to refocus its efforts on in-league projects, such as the Back to School Bonanza, Vision Screening, Career Conference, Camp Get Fit, and the Middle School Volunteer Program.

"In addition, the Junior League of Lufkin has an exciting new fundraiser, the Sprint into Spring Fun Run, on March 24, 2012 at Crown Colony Country Club.  This event features a 1 mile kids run and a 5K race," said Webster.

Registration information can be found on the JLL website.

The League also plans to continue its annual Junior League of Lufkin Spring Market, which will be on April 20 and 21 this year.
