LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A man who lasted two months as the top cop in Zavalla is now running for the top position in Angelina County.
In the first day of the new filing period for the May 29 primary elections, Jimmie Hodges has signed up to run for sheriff on the Democratic ticket.
Hodges was fired as Zavalla Police chief in July after the city council reviewed complaints against him.
Hodges has 27 years of experience in the Angelina County Sheriff's Office.
The winner of the Democratic ticket will run against the winner of the Republican ticket in November. Sgt. Allen Hill of the sheriff's office and retired DPS Trooper Greg Sanches have signed up for that race.
