NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - A Lufkin couple rushing to a Nacogdoches hospital for the birth of their first child did not make it soon enough.
Shortly after noon last Friday, hospital officials said April Bourghs went into labor with rapidly increasing contractions. Her husband, Joseph, was driving them from Lufkin to Nacogdoches when her water broke near Woodland Hills Golf Course, just south of Nacogdoches.
They were forced to pull over into the parking lot of Cook's Tire and Service Center on U.S. Highway 59. That is where baby Justice Blake made her arrival. The baby girl was born before her dad could even stop the truck and get to his wife on the passenger side, according to Debbie Stevens, Marketing Services Manager for Nacogdoches Medical Center.
"The pain was coming and going didn't realize it was labor. We left here he asked 'Do you want to stop at Woodland Heights?' that was like two blocks down the road and I said no, no I can make it. " said Bourghs.
Justice was born weighing 7.25 pounds and 19.5 inches long. Once the newborn was safely secured, the couple continued to Nacogdoches Medical Center's emergency room for an examination.
Everyone is said to be doing well.
