Banquet set to honor outstanding East Texans in agriculture

NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - The stage is set and the winners have been announced for the 12th annual Agriculture Appreciation and Awareness Banquet in Nacogdoches.

The banquet is held every year to recognize the many contributions of the multi-million dollar agriculture industry.  The industry is important to East Texas with Nacogdoches County leading the area in farm income.

Among the honorees are Farm Family of the Year (Forrest Lee Meador Family, Agriculture Pioneer (Dr. James Kroll), Agribusiness of the Year (Bright Coop, Inc), and Agriculture Educator of the Year (Dr. Leon Young).

The banquet will be held at 6 pm, April 2, at Banita Creek Hall.  The keynote speaker is J. B. Smith, Smith County sheriff.  Organizers describe him as a well-regarded humorist.

Scholarships will also be awarded to SFA students or prospective SFA students who are planning to major in the agriculture field.
