Center man arrested for possible hate crimes

CENTER, TX (News Release) - On Sunday, February 19th 2012 Center Police Department responded to 712 Hutchins Street.

It was reported by officers that unknown suspect(s) threw two fire bombs into the window of the residence in the morning hours.

On Monday February 27th 2012 the Center Police Department responded to the same residence in regards to another incident where unknown suspect(s) had thrown yet another fire bomb at the same window of the residence.

The two fire bomb incidents where linked to a burglary that occurred at 620 Cora Street.

Detective Stroud recovered evidence from both crime scenes that led to a 26-year-old Center Man, Shaddrick McCollister. On March 5th 2012 Detective Stroud arrested McCollister for two charges of second degree felony Arson and one charge of Burglary of a habitation, a second degree felony.

McCollister is being held at the Center Police Department on three $30,000 bonds. He is waiting to be transferred to the Shelby County Jail.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is looking into these cases as well and they are considering the arsons to be possible hate crimes.
